New Year

I hope everyone had a great Christmas.
Now it is on to the New Year.

I have had some clients that have come to me in the past weeks wanting a "new" look.
Most people get stuck with their makeup application.
One reason is, they have done the same thing for years and it works for them, it is fast and easy.  I challenge you this year to try something new.
New colors on your eye lids, different eyeliners, or a change in lipstick.
I hear time and time again that people are afraid to change, all I have to say is.......it's makeup not a tattoo!
It washes off.

I hope you all remember the bad makeup of the 80's.
If you are still sporting this look,
you really need to come out of your comfort zone and change it up!

No one want to look like this.

Video

I have had some people ask me to do videos of makeup application.  It makes me very nervous to do this.  It goes through my mind.....how many would watch, my voice might be irritating to listen to, ect...
Do you think it is a good idea?

Love False Eyelashes!

How to Choose False Eyelashes
Posted by MichellePhan.com

We're excited to bring you another great article from BellaSugar, a fantastic source for beauty news, how-to's, celebrity beauty trends, and giveaways galore. Today, BellaSugar is sharing "How to Choose False Eyelashes"...

There's never been a better time than now to try out face- and eye-enhancing false eyelashes. But with so many types and lengths of lashes available, the selection process can be daunting. When it comes to purchasing false lashes, Ana Cruzalegui, CEO of UK-based We Are Faux, says the first thing to think about is the kind of makeup look you desire. "Do you want to look natural or add a bit more drama?" she asks. "Or perhaps you are trying to create a style inspired by a certain era."

Click here for “Homemade Candy Cane Body Scrub.
For BellaSugar’s three guidelines for choosing false lashes wisely, just keep reading.
  • Think thick: "The thicker the false lash is at the base, the more depth it will add to your eyes," Cruzalegui explains. Thicker false lashes also create a darker lash line, and look beautiful paired with a smoky eye. She recommends the brand's Nighthunter lashes ($20), pictured upper left. (Note the company's policies on shipping to the US.)
  • Amp it up: Longer and more separated lashes are perfect for lending volume and length. Pair this variety with a winged-out liner look for added flair. Cruzalegui's pick: the Unveiled style ($17), pictured upper right.
  • Avant-garde "lite": "If you want to be more daring with your falsies but would still like an everyday look, try cutting a more dramatic pair in half," she says. Then, simply place them on each of the outer ends of your lash lines for a reeled-in, avant-garde look. Suggestions: the daring blue, green, and diamante Rosebud lashes ($31), as seen in the lower left photo, or the metallic-gold accentuated Rubia lashes ($24), pictured lower right.

Would You Go a Month Without Washing Your Hair?

I bet you would never go a week without washing your hair, let alone a month. Why do you think that is?
Because it is gross for one reason and your hair would never do the things you need it to do.
So why don't you wash your makeup brushes?
I cannot express enough how important this is to your face and makeup.
Studies have shown that if you don't wash your makeup brushes you are more likely to break out.
If you have a open sore on your face and you use your makeup brush to put concealer on, it can cause more problems.
It is so easy to wash makeup brushes.
You do not need to buy expensive cleaner.
Here is one of the best way to clean your brushes:
What you need:
Plate
dish soap
olive oil

put the liquid dish soap on the plate
put olive oil on the same plate put opposite end
rub your brushes in the soap and then the olive oil
repeat with all of your brushes.
when you have all of your brushes loaded up with soap and olive oil, rinse until the water runs clear.
The most important thing is NOT to let the water run down the handle of the brush, this will loosen the glue inside the brush and it will fall apart.
Lay the brushes flat hanging over an edge of a counter, so water will drip off the brush not down.
I promise you that if you clean your brushes at least once a week your face and makeup will be beautiful.
Happy Cleaning!

The 5 Widespread Beauty Myths No One Tells You About

There are a lot of common beauty myths people are eager to disprove: drinking water makes your skin more moist, popping pimples makes them go away, etc. But there are some misconceptions that are just as pervasive and don't get nearly as much attention. To see if you've been deceived, just keep reading.
  1. You can shrink your pores
Nope — you can minimize the look of your pores by exfoliating and keeping them free of debris, but they're going to be the size they are. Astringents can help the skin contract, making them look smaller temporarily, but can't shrink them in the long term.
  2. The cysts on your face are always acne
Most people assume their breakout is just that — a breakout. In reality, though, there are many other common skin conditions that look similar. People often try to treat bumps from rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, and skin allergies using acne products, which can just end up irritating skin more.
  3. Tanning keeps your skin clear
This is deceptive; it appears to work because tanning and burning desiccates your skin, so pimples seem to dry up. After a couple of days, though, your dry, now irritated skin might start pumping out even more oil than usual, and your flaky, damaged skin could clog your pores. Lots of people then try to tan again to "fix" the issue and just start the cycle all over again.
  4. Lip balm keeps your lips hydrated
There are many lip balms and glosses that contain menthol or camphor, which just dry your lips out more. And even with products that don't, constantly re-applying throughout the day can actually break down your moisture barrier and dehydrate the delicate skin on your lips.
  5. Trimming your hair makes it grow faster
This is the old wives' tale that just won't die. Trimming your hair often prevents split ends and keeps your hair in good shape, sure. But your rate of hair growth isn't determined by how much dead keratin you're lopping off. It's about genetics, environment, diet, and even the time of year.

Revlon Photo Ready vs Loreal True Match Foundation

These are two of my favorite foundations.  I wanted to try both of them and tell you which one works best.  True match:
Pros:
Easy to match to your face.
Creamy not cakey
Coverage is almost flawless
Goes on smooth
Use very little, it goes a long way.
Love it on my clients, works well on every face.
If you go to Loreal website, they have great ways to help you find the right color for you. Super helpful!

Cons:
None!
This is $7.99

This is $8.99
Photo Ready is a great foundation also.  My sister likes this one a lot, and I do know makeup artist who use this.  The only difference between these two is the coverage. True Match covers a bit better than the Photo Ready.  Other than that they are pretty much the same foundation.  Between these two it really comes down to price, which both of them are a great price.

Let me know which one works better for you.

Next I am going to try Makeup Forever (professional makeup) and see if these will stand up to the "best" foundation you can buy.

One of the Most Important Things

Lips are on of the most important thing on your face.  I know a lot of people who don't wear lipstick on their lips because they are afraid.  I have been told that it is hard to pick out a color and when you get it home it does not look right.

The best way to pick out lipstick is to:

1. Start with one makeup brand.  Don't go and look at every makeup brand for lipstick, you will be overwhelmed.

2. Make sure you are looking at the right kind of lipstick......all day wear, moisturizing, or a stain.

3. When you find the brand you want to buy from, look at all the colors and pick three that your eye immediately does to.

4. Out of those three colors pick the color that you think would look good on you.

5. Don't go for big bold colors at first, ease your way into that.

Don't underestimate yourself on this, you will know which color looks good, trust your judgement.

If you have fair skin, then warmer colors will look best on you.

If you have Olive or darker skin, light colors will go best on you.

Just try some type of color on your lips, you will be amazed at how better your face will look
Remember that when you first meet someone your lips are one of the first things they see.

Make sure they look great along with the rest of your makeup.

Honey Sugar Lip Care

I dont know about you, but my lips suffer all the time with feeling dry.  It does not matter if it is winter or summer I am always putting on chap stick!

I know of this product, it is a sugar lip stick, it cost about $25.00, ouch!  So I wanted to find a way to make my own.  I went on YouTube and found several different ways to make it.  I liked some better than others so I just used the ingredients that sounded best for me.

This is all you need:

1 tea spoon: Sugar
2 tea spoon honey
1/2 tea spoon Olive Oil
mix together and put in a air tight container.

You will just need a little bit to rub on your lips softly.  Rub in and then wipe off (Olivia opted to lick it off).

I plan on putting this in my bathroom and using every night.

Happy Kissing!

How to Help Dry Skin in the Winter

If you have dry skin like I do, winter is not fun for your face.   I hate it when I put on my makeup and have spots of dry flakiness (especially around my nose).  I have one solution for you... Mac Fix plus!  This to me is magic in a bottle.  You can do so many things with this product, but how I use it is....I spray the fix plus all over my face (not to much, just enough to cover your face) and let it dry, this only takes a few seconds to dry.  The I go ahead and put all of my makeup on.  After I finish with ALL of my makeup I again lightly spray my face (do not rub in) by spraying your face after your makeup is on, this product will set your makeup.  If you have a dry cakey look it will take that away.

I use to put heavy moisturizing cream on my face every morning and night, but now all I do is use this in the morning.  How long will this bottle last?  I have had mine of almost a year and I do use the same bottle on my clients. I have not had to replace it yet.  To me this is a miracle in a bottle.  So for those who have dry skin, I really recommend this product, you wont be sorry!

What do you use on your face to make your dryness go away?  I really would like to know.

Need to Get Rid of Redness on Your Face?

We're excited to bring you another great article from BellaSugar, a fantastic source for beauty news, how-to's, celebrity beauty trends, and giveaways galore. Today, BellaSugar is sharing "Redness Treatments That Work Fast"...

Dry, ruddy-skin season is upon us, and if you have sensitive skin or naturally pink undertones, it can mean lots of unwanted redness all over. Not to worry, though, because there are plenty of quick, simple fixes that will get you looking nice and cooled-off again in no time; check them out.
1. Green tea — This stuff is an anti-inflammatory and it's packed with antioxidants to boot. Instead of washing your face with warm water, just brew some strong green tea (jasmine green is great, too), dilute it with cold water, and then use it to rinse your face. For extra power, you can also brew some superstrong tea and then pop it in the freezer to chill it for a bit before you use it.
2. Ibuprofen or aspirin — Yes they reduce a fever, but they also use similar mechanisms to get rid of redness. If you're not allergic, crush either up and mix into a little water until a paste consistency is formed. Then, simply spread on like a face mask, allowing it to sit for about 15 minutes.
Click here for "10 Mind-Bending Braids You Have to See"
For more of BellaSugar’s redness treatments, just keep reading!
3. Benadryl — Try an antihistamine, such as Benadryl; it'll reduce redness and reactivity in general.
4. Turmeric — This spice is highly anti-inflammatory, so just like green tea, putting it on can zap the redness right out of your skin. You can use it as a mask or poultice for gentle, all-natural dereddening.
5. Visine — Sure it gets the red out of eyes, but Visine works on skin, too. It's a vasoconstrictor, which means that it makes your blood vessels smaller and less visible, resulting in a less ruddy appearance.

6 Ways to Look Better For Free!

Looking good doesn't have to cost a lot of money. In fact, it doesn't have to cost a thing. There are plenty of ways to look better without spending a single penny. We talked with top dermatologists, hair stylists, makeup artists, and estheticians to score their secrets for looking your best for the best price of all: free.
For BellaSugar's six ways to look better without spending a cent, just keep reading!

De-puff while you sleep.
Banishing puffy eyes overnight is as easy as changing the way you sleep. "Elevating your head with pillows while sleeping helps the fluids from gathering around the under-eye area," says celebrity makeup artist Tina Turnbow. Got a few cents to spare? "Cucumbers and cold chamomile tea bags are great, too," she adds.

Posture, please
. Standing tall can have long-term benefits. "My mother-in-law is 93 years old and has amazing posture," says dermatologist Dr. Kathy Fields, co-creator of Proactiv skin care. "She looks at least 20 to 30 years younger because of it! It’s the cheapest tip on earth and good for your health."

Create a face-flattering ponytail.
“Anyone can pull off a sleek high ponytail," says stylist Oliver Ifergan of the Oliver Ifergan Atelier in Beverly Hills. "The trick is to find the most flattering angle for your bone structure." Ifergan's easy trick: "Pull the hair back, then with your pointer and middle finger follow the cheek bone all the way back, and voila! You have the perfect ponytail position.”

Freshen up your face.
It only takes a couple of minutes to perk up tired-looking skin, says Dallas esthetician Renée Rouleau. "Massage your knuckles underneath the eyes and above the cheekbones," she explains. "Do this for two minutes after cleansing and moisturizing in order to create a more active blood flow." (When blood doesn't circulate enough, skin starts looking dull.) That's why Rouleau says, "A two-minute massage will help nutrients to resurface, leaving your skin with a revitalized glow."

Avoid acne.
Can't figure out why you're breaking out on your forehead? Your hair care could be to blame, says New York City dermatologist Dr. Ellen Gendler. "Sometimes the oils from the hair and products that people use in the hair can contribute to acne," she says. Rinse conditioner off the body, and keep hair styling products away from your skin. The result: a clearer complexion, without spending a penny.

Lose the sweetness!
"Neither start your day nor end your day with sugar," says Bren Lee Gomez, an esthetician and makeup artist in Los Angeles. "If you start off eating or drinking something with refined sugar, you'll be sallow and dehydrated by lunch time and require even more sugar to keep going. If you eat sugar just before bedtime, you'll wake up with dehydrated skin."

Top 5 Makeup Brushes To Get You Started

All of these are Mac brushes.  You don't have to use Mac brushes to get started.  You can go to Walmart or Target and get these types of brushes.  If you want to invest in brushes from Mac (which are the best) then do so slowly so you are not spending a fortune on brushes that you will never use.

The top brush is a powder brush.  It is big and fluffy.  It will help your powder go on smooth as long as you PAT the powder on your face.

The next brush is for applying color to your cheeks. Put the color on your brush and start at the apple of your cheek and flick upwards.  If you want a real natural look make sure you don't suck in your cheeks and then go up and down on the cheek bone, that is only for really dramatic looks.

Next is the blending brush.  I have to have this one.  If you like to wear eyeshadow you need this brush.  In school you learn that you can NEVER blend your shadow to much and this brush will do all the work for you.  Hold it at the end and using windshield wiping motions go back and forth over the shadow.  I usually count while I am doing it.  I will put on one color and the blend for 15 counts and then do the next shadow and then do 15 counts, it does not matter how many colors you use with each other, the key is BLENDING!

The next brush is small and a bit stiff.  I use this to put an all over color on my lids (such as a base color) I use this all the time and cant live with out it.

Last is the crease brush.  If you really want a defined color in your crease this is the one that you will want to use.  After you have applied the color onto your crease then that is when you want to take your blending brush and blend, blend, blend!

When looking at Target or other stores make sure you ready what the brush tells you.  Each brush package will tell you if it is a blending brush or a powder brush. Make sure you check it before you buy it.

I have had a few people ask me to put up a video showing how to use brushes.  Maybe next week I will try that, if you think it will be helpful.  Let me know What you think.

When I talk about blending, this is the effect that you want.  Not so dramatic, look and see how each color fades into the next color.

My Top 4 Things I Can Not Live Without

The top is Laura Mercier tined moisturizer.  It is the best thing that I have ever found.  If you don't like wearing foundation, but have to wear a moisturizer with sunscreen then this is for you.  It will give you a slight coverage for your face without feeling heavy, yet it has all the benefits of a moisturizer with sunscreen.  It also gives you a healthy glow. The price is a bit steep, around 40.00, but I have had mine over a year and I use it every day.  A little goes a long way.  Well worth the investment.

The purple tube is Urban Decay eyelid primer.  If you wear eyeshadow and it creases and does not go on the way you want it to, such as; your eyeshadow just all melts together and you look like you have one hot mess on your eye......well this primer will not let that happen.  It will keep your eyeshadow looking fresh and clean all day.  It also allows for your eyeshadow to show it's true color.  It creates a barrier between your flesh and the eyeshadow so it does not let the showow seep into your skin.  I have had mine also for a year and use it almost every day, the cost is around 19.00.  Oh, if you buy this make sure you get the nude color because they have primers that have some color to it and I know people who will just wear the color primer on their lids and call it good.

Have you always wanted long eyelashes?  Well Mac Prep and Prime is the way to do it without getting eyelash extensions.  You put it on before mascara (it will go on white) and then put your mascara on right after.  Prep and Prime will bind the mascara to the eyelash and make it thinker and longer.  I will put up a picture with one eye with Prep and Prime and one eye without, you will be amazed!

Last but not least the most glorious mascara is MaybellineGreat Lash!  You can get it at any drug store for every cheap.  I have tried SO MANY mascaras (some that were so expensive) and nothing can touch this mascara.  I don't know how Maybelline does it, but it is magic in  a bottle.

So there you have it, my makeup geeks.  These top 5 things I could not live without. I hope this helps.

Photo Shoot

This photo shoot was my last thing I did for my makeup class.  These are raw photos, meaning they have not been touched up at all. It helps when you have someone as beautiful as Misty!   As I said before, it was a very stressful photo shoot.  Thanks Misty for being my model, you are such a good friend and I love you.
